Description
(Description): This is an exceedingly rare and absolutely gorgeous custom built Chickering Brothers piano ( Pat May 19th 1909) that has quite an incredible pedigree behind it. The piano was a gift to pianist Simone de Bela-Olivier from Dr. Rudolph Ganz (24 February 1877 – 2 August 1972) Ganz was Switzerland’s most famous pianist before he became an American citizen. There is a tremendous amount of information found on the legendary life of Ganz on the net. Ganz was considered one of greatest piano teachers of the 20th century and taught Simone personally as a child through young adulthood. Simone herself a native of Belgium, along with her husband was part of Nazi resistance during World War 2. When the couple immigrated to the United States she became a noted and beloved entertainer and concert pianist throughout her life in Illinois and later in retirement at the Villages in Florida. As with Rudolph Gantz there is a sizable amount of prudent material concerning her eclectic life that will be included with this piano. Provenance: I purchased the superb piano 10 years ago from the estate administrator handling her affairs after Mrs. Olivier’s death. My daughter has gently and lovingly played the piano since that juncture and is now looking at entering college which is right around the corner. We have decided to sell the piano in lieu of that transition and pray we find this iconic piano a new and deserved benefactor. (Condition Report): Very good overall with few corner scuffing rubbing marks etc.. Both the piano bench which opens to a compartment to keep books and music sheets and the custom made lyre chair goes with the piano. The lyre chair has never been used while the bench has been utilized showing material wear because of use not abuse. I have provided multiple photos for your kind inspection. (History): The Acoustigrande was a popular piano brand of the early 20th Century era, produced by Chickering Brothers (not to be confused with Chickering & Sons) of Chicago. Chickering Brothers was established in Chicago in 1892 by Clifford Chickering, a distant relative of the famous Chickering & Sons of Boston. Chickering Brothers built exceptional instruments, including the Acoustigrande and the Capacoustic Grand pianos. These instruments were scientifically designed to get the maximum tone and volume for size, often being quite small in outward dimensions. Only a handful of the rare blond cabinet versions exist as in the case of this museum example. * I will ship out of state and internationally but all shipping cost is paid for by the buyer. Shipping or Local Pick Up: I will ship this piano anywhere in the world at the buyer’s expense. You are also welcome to arrange to have it picked up locally and I will assist in every way possible.Blonde Chickering Brothers Baby Grand Piano Dr. Rudolph Ganz Switzerland Pianist
